DHEA CREAM

This fragrance-free moisturizing crème contains 25 mg of DHEA
(dehydroepiandrosterone) in each half teaspoon.

Information:

DHEA is the most abundant hormone produced by the adrenal glands.  For years, scientists considered DHEA and DHEA-S to be relatively unimportant because they did not have a specific function in the body.  It is now known that DHEA is the substance from which other important hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and cortisone are made.  For this reason, it is often called the mother of all hormones.  It has also been discovered that cells contain specific DHEA receptors, indicating that it has functions particular to it alone.

In the past decade, researchers studying the aging process have discovered that blood levels of DHEA increase steadily until we are in our 20's.  Then they decline gradually until at age 60, DHEA levels are only about two-thirds of their peak levels  And if you live to be 80, your body will probably have only 10-20% of the DHEA it had when you were 20 years old.  This can leave you vulnerable to breast, prostate, and bladder cancer, cardiovascular disease, adult onset diabetes, nerve degeneration, and other age-related conditions.  Another significant fact about DHEA is that DHEA levels reflect the body's general health.  If you compare the DHEA levels of two individuals of the same age and sex, the healthy individual's DHEA level will greatly exceed that of an unhealthy individual who suffers from one or more health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, arthritis, asthma, etc.

DHEA has been the subject of nearly 4,000 scientific articles.  Studies using DHEA have shown that DHEA:

  • may aid in prevention breast and skin cancer

  • supports immune function

  • reduces body weight

  • improves memory

  • increases longevity up to 50%

In addition, research shows that adequate levels of DHEA bring relief to people with arthritis, lupus, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, thyroid problems, herpes infections, stress, depression, allergies, and hormone imbalances.  It has been used successfully for building lean muscle mass and has positive effects on collagen and skin integrity.  DHEA is also useful in treating stress and depression.
DHEA Creme with Antioxidants 2 oz. (56.7gm) Cream

DHEA Creme with Antioxidants is a topical application combining the anti-aging properties of DHEA with antioxidants and bioflavonoids to protect against free radical damage and strengthen tissues.

In addition to the anti-aging properties of DHEA, the creme contains Vitamins C and E plus Grape Seed extract as antioxidants.  Grape Seed extract contains the bioflavonoid complex known as procyanidolic oligomers.  Several names are used to describe these PCO bioflavonoids, including Pycnogenol, the trade name for PCO extracted from Pine Bark.  Bioflavonoids function as both antioxidants and to strengthen and protect living tissue.  It was, recently discovered that PCO is 20 times better than Vitamin C and 50 times better than Vitamin E against free radicals.  To combat free radicals, the body produces enzymes that scavenge and neutralize them.  Antioxidants are nutrients that bolster the action of these enzymes.

Recent research has shown that antioxidants applied topically both protect and correct the skin.  Vitamins A and C work to correct photoaging skin problems.

Aloe Vera is added to the Born again DHEA creme to enhance skin penetration of the ingredients.  Aloe is also recognized for its healing properties.

This fragrance-free moisturizing crème contains 25 mg of DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) in each half teaspoon. The antioxidants, Vitamins C & E plus the procyanidolic oligomers (PCO) in the Grape Seed Extract, protect the skin against photoaging caused by UV radiation, chemical pollution, and smoke. Vitamins A and C work to correct aging skin problems. Aloe Vera Gel helps Born Again DHEA Crème absorb quickly into the skin leaving no greasy after feel.

When DHEA is taken orally in capsules or tablets, it passes through the liver.  This can place a potential stress on the liver.  We feel that the transdermal absorption of DHEA is a more cautious approach.

Directions:
Smooth 1/4 teaspoon into the skin twice daily to help control fine lines and wrinkles and to keep skin youthful. Do not use more than 1/4 teaspoon twice daily.

Questions and Answers about DHEA Creme

Q.  Why is Born Again DHEA Creme pink if there are no colors added?

A.  The color in the creme comes from the Grape Seed and Wild Yam extracts.

Q.  I take antioxidants orally.  Why do I need them in a creme?

A.  When oral vitamins are taken, very small amounts reach the skin.  A topical formulation allows the antioxidants to reach the skin at proper levels.  Research shows that antioxidants applied topically both protect and correct the skin.

A Little History Lesson About Mexican Yam~

Mexican yam has long had a reputation as a woman's herb. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, wild yam was used to treat menstrual pain and conditions related to childbirth. Pregnant women used wild yam to combat nausea, ease aching muscles, and prevent miscarriages.

Wild yam was also used as a colic remedy. Furthermore, the plant's anti-inflammatory properties were thought to be effective in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

Most of those uses were forgotten after Japanese researchers in 1936 discovered that wild yam contained diosgenin, a chemical that scientist Russell Marker used in the 1940s to create synthetic progesterone and the hormone DHEA.
