L-CYSTEINE, 100 caps, 500 mg
Cysteine: essential nutrient for Glutathione synthesis, useful
for hair, skin and nail health, supports healthy joint function,
protects the stomach and intestines from damage caused by aspirin
and similar drugs.
Free of all common allergens | Non-essential amino acid
Overview
Cysteine is a sulfur containing non-essential amino acid that
is closely related to cystine. Cystine actually contains two
cysteine molecules that are joined together. Being a non-essential
amino acid means that sufficient amounts of Cysteine are formed
from L-Methionine (an essential amino acid) and L-Serine via a
transsulfuration reaction in the body. However, for preterm
infants Cysteine is considered to be a conditionally essential
amino acid. L-Cysteine serves as a precursor for the synthesis of
proteins, glutathionine, taurine, coenzyme A, biotin and inorganic
sulfate, and also serves as a major precursor for the synthesis of
the potent antioxidant glutathione. Without adequate amounts of
glutathione in the liver, the tissues of the body can be exposed
to significant oxidative stress resulting in widespread cellular
damage.
Our L-Cysteine is available in 500 mg capsules in a 100 count
bottle.
Research Indicates
- Essential nutrient for Glutathione synthesis
- May have positive effect on the inflammation response
- May have mild detoxification effects
- May support healthy joint function
- Due to sulfur content, may be useful for hair, skin and nail
health
- May be helpful for protecting the stomach and intestines
from damage caused by aspirin and similar drugs
Dosage
Typical daily dosage ranges from 500 to 1500 mgs.
Cautions
- If you are pregnant or lactating consult your health care
practitioner prior to using L-Cysteine.
- There have been rare reports of renal stones (cystine
stones) associated with excessive Cysteine intake. Drinking
water and supplementing with Vitamin C has been shown to
prevent cystine stones.
