ARTICLE #1 WATER

Water helps keep the fat away!

How much water is enough? On the average, a person should drink eight, 8-ounce glasses every day -- abut two quarts.  However, the over-weight person needs one additional glass for every 25 pounds of excess weight.  If you exercise briskly or if the weather is hot and dry, the amount you drink also should be increased.

Water should preferably be cold (it's absorbed into the system more quickly) and evidence suggests drinking cold water can help burn calories.

when the body gets the water it needs to function optimally, its fluids are perfectly balanced.  when this happens, you have reached the "breakthrough" point.

If you stop drinking enough water, your body fluids will be thrown out of balance again, and you may experience fluid retention, unexplained weight gain and loss of thirst.  To remedy the situation you'll have to go back and force another "breakthrough."

Water is possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off.  Although most of us take it for granted, drinking the proper amount of water may be the only true method for permanent weight loss.  Some of the effects of water and weight loss are:

  • Water suppresses the appetite naturally.  There is a loss of hunger almost overnight.
  • Natural thirst returns.
  • More fat is used as fuel, because the liver is free to metabolize stored fat efficiently.
  • Retained water shows up as excess weight.  To get rid of excess water you must drink more water.
  • An overweight person needs more water than a thin one.
  • water helps to maintain proper muscle tone.
  • Water can help relieve constipation.

Studies have shown that when water intake is increased it will cause fat deposits to be flushed in proportion to water intake.  More water intake--less fat deposits retained.  Less water intake--more fat deposits retained.  Why?  The kidneys can't function properly without enough water.  When they don't work to capacity, some of their load is dumped onto the liver.

One of the liver's primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body.  If the liver has to do some of the kidney's work, it can't operate at full throttle.  As a result, it metabolizes less fat, more fat remains stored in the body and weight loss stops.

When the body gets less water, it perceives this as a threat to survival and begins to hold on to every drop.  Water is stored in extra cellular spaces (outside the cells) .  This shows up as swollen feet, legs and hands....The best way to overcome the problem of water retention is to give your body what it needs--plenty of water.  Only then will stored water be released.

water helps to maintain proper muscle tone by giving muscles their natural ability to contract and by preventing dehydration.  It also helps to prevent the sagging skin that usually follows weight loss, shrinking cells are buoyed by water, which plumps the skin and leaves it clear, healthy and resilient...

Here are some tips to maximize your fat loss and success .

  • It is not necessary, but it will be helpful to walk or exercise each day.
  • Quicker results can be obtained by limiting intake of fried foods, sweets, caffeine, etc.
  • Dissolving the tablets in a small amount of water may enhance the body's ability to absorb them and metabolize stored fat.

ARTICLE #2 WATER

Water is absolutely critical to weight loss
when we are dieting.  Water helps eliminate the fat from our system and keeps our skin moist and hydrated.

The Body's Most Important Liquid
During Rest, Exercise and Dieting is Water!

Go-Go with H²O !!

What is a substance that contains no calories, makes up 60 percent of our body weight, and is practically free?

The answer is WATER.

Water is an underestimated nutrient, says Katherine Grunewald, Professor of Foods and Nutrition at Kansas State University.  "We probably don't give it much thought because it is so widely available.  However, inadequate supply of water is critical to our health.  If we were deprived of many vitamins or minerals we might survive for months or even years.  But without water we would last only a few days."

Drink 6 to 10 glasses per day

Many health professionals recommend 6 to 10 glasses of water a day or equivalent.  Water may be particularly important for individuals who sweat a great deal.  Examples are farmers, construction workers, and others who work under hot conditions.

An individual running a 26-mile marathon may lose as much as 10-15 pounds of water.

Why water loss is critical

Why is water loss such a critical factor? The body needs water so that it can cool off during the sweating process.  If sweat losses are high, heat exhaustion may result.   Furthermore, performance may be compromised by losses as little as 3 percent of the body weight.  For a 165 pound person that is a 5 pound loss.

Unfortunately, thirst is not always a reliable indicator of how much water you should drink.  If you think your sweating losses may be excessive, there is a way to estimate how much water you need for replacement.  Weigh yourself before and after the activity.  For every pound lost you should be consuming a pint (16 oz.) of water or equivalent beverage.  An easy way to remember this is "a pint's a pound the world around."

Dieting

Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat.  Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause fat deposits to increase, while an increase in water intake can actually reduce fat deposits. Drinking water is the best treatment for fluid retention.  Think about it.  When the body is deprived of water it perceives this as a threat and begins to hold onto every drop.  Water is stored outside the cells and shows up in swollen feet, fingers, legs and hands.

The over weight person needs more water than the thin person.  Since we know that water is the key to fat metabolism, the overweight person needs more water. Water also helps to maintain muscle tone.  Water helps rid the body of waste, and during weight loss, the body has a lot more weight to get rid of all that metabolized fat and it must be shed. Adequate water will help flush out the waste.

We sometimes forget a critical element of sound nutrition -- water.  Water is the medium for all body fluids, including blood, the lymph, digestive juices, urine and perspiration.  Water balances acids, moves nutrients into the body's cells, and is a solution for holding electrolytes.  The body's need for water is second only to its need for oxygen.

So drink your water!

It is very important to drink plenty of water when dieting.   A dry mouth is a definite sign you are thirsty, and if you are thirsty, your body already needs more water.   Water is very important to your success in weight loss.
